THE WORKSHOPS of HOWE HILL FARM

Produced by: Hessler Creative & Urban Exodus

COURSE DESCRIPTION

STAY INSPIRED. STAY ENGAGED. STAY CONNECTED. KEEP CREATING.

These days photographers are asked to occupy multiple different roles and take on diverse assignments in order to maintain consistent work. Building and preserving a particular visual identity across multiple mediums is a must in order to create striking and memorable imagery that sets you apart. This course will teach you how to stay true to your identity across all aspects of your projects.

As a photographer, Tutes has established himself through numerous forms: film and digital photography, videography, shoot-production, portraiture, and lifestyle imagery. What gives his work cohesion is his commitment to his own visual identity as a creator - incorporating elements of his individual style and life experiences while translating them to fit within the bounds of his commercial work and well-defined personal projects.

In the first two class sessions, you will be asked to produce three separate environmental portraits with a critique at the end of the following class. Each assignment will be directed by a specific element: a  mood board, treatment, or short description. The goal is to create dynamic portraits that each feel distinctive and evoke specific moods while maintaining  your personal vision and style.

These are hard lines to walk, but with Tutes' expert guidance, these exercises will be incredibly helpful in exploring a personal analysis of what style, themes, and narratives are developing in your work, and how to harness them. Tutes will guide you on how to use materials, spaces, and people or objects you have at home in order to complete assignments to the best of your ability. The focus will be on understanding the fundamentals of lighting, blocking, and translating through the frame.
