The Magic of Marbling 
Learn the history and process of marbling. Design and create two one-of-a-kind scarves and a collection of marbled papers with Create Collective Workshops

COURSE DESCRIPTION 

 

​

Join us for an unforgettable evening of textile and fabric marbling with Maine and NYC based artist and fashion designer, Lea Freni. In this hands-on 3 hour introductory course, you will learn marbling techniques to develop one-of-a-kind designs on paper & fabric. All students will go home with two finished scarves (a small silk scarf and a  large cotton scarf) and a collection of marbled papers.

 

This course is designed to equip you with the basic knowledge, confidence and a materials list to continue marbling at home!

We will cover:

• A brief history of marbling

• Basic color theory

• How to prepare the marbling bath & prep fabric or paper for printing

• Overview of basic traditional marbling patterns

​

In addition, there will be refreshments and an assortment of farm fresh snacks. â€‹

WHAT'S INCLUDED

All artist tools and materials will be provided. You will leave with a finished 17" x 17" silk scarf, a 27" x 27" cotton scarf, and up to 20 marbled practice papers. 

​

We will have beverages and a light assortment of farm fresh hors d'oeuvres. 

​

HOURS & LOCATION

The class will run approximately 3 hours, starting promptly at 1pm and ending at 4pm. This workshop is an in-person course hosted in the Art Barn at Howe Hill Farm in Camden, Maine.

WHAT TO BRING

All materials will be provided but please bring an apron (or clothes you don't mind getting messy), a notebook/pencil to take notes and a water bottle. â€‹

​

​

Skill level

This workshop is designed for people of all skill levels who are wanting to experiment with the art of fabric and paper marbling. No prior art experience is required. In addition to your final pieces, you will receive a list of suggested supplies should you want to continue experimenting with marbling at home. Children over the age of eight may register for this course if their parent or guardian is also registered.

REFUNDs

If you need to cancel, please notify us via email at least 15 days before the start of the workshop. We will refund your tuition, minus a $50 cancellation fee or you may transfer your full tuition amount to another Workshop at Howe Hill Farm within 18 months. Cancellations made within 15 days of the workshop will result in forfeit of the full tuition amount. If you are traveling to attend a workshop we recommend insuring your trip with Travelex insurance so your trip and tuition will be covered in the event of illness or unforeseen circumstances.

*If minimum enrollment is not met within 10 days of the workshop start the course will be cancelled and a full refund will be issued to all registered students.

Lea Freni is a co-founder of Create Collective Workshops, a multi-disciplinary art collective hosting creative workshops throughout the Northeast.

 

Lea Freni is a Midcoast Maine based designer and artist. She has extensive fashion industry experience in apparel design and 3D modeling. She has worked for Calvin Klein and other prestigious fashion houses. She is passionate about art education and exploring surface design techniques with creatives of all ages and skill levels.
