The Magic of Marbling 
Learn the history and process of marbling. Design and create three one-of-a-kind marbled scarves with Create Collective Workshops
 

Tuition: $175 (includes all materials, beverages & farm fresh snacks)

COURSE DESCRIPTION 

 

Join us for an unforgettable evening of textile and fabric marbling with Maine and NYC based artists and fashion designers, Lea Freni and Marianne Needell. In this hands-on 3 hour introductory course, you will learn marbling techniques to develop one-of-a-kind designs on paper & fabric. All students will go home with three finished scarves (a small silk scarf, a small cotton scarf and a  large cotton scarf) and a collection of marbled papers.

 

This course is designed to equip you with the basic knowledge, confidence and a materials list to continue marbling at home!

We will cover:

• A brief history of marbling

• Basic color theory

• How to prepare the marbling bath & prep fabric or paper for printing

• Overview of basic traditional marbling patterns

In addition, there will be refreshments, including chilled Rosé, iced tea, and an assortment of farm fresh hors d'oeuvres.

WORKSHOP SPECIFICS

 

 

WHAT'S INCLUDED

All artist tools and materials will be provided. You will leave with a finished marbled 22" x 22" cotton scarf, a 17" x 17" silk scarf, a 27" x 27" cotton scarf, and your marbled practice papers. 

We will have beverages and a light assortment of farm fresh hors d'oeuvres. 

HOURS & LOCATION

The class will run approximately 3 hours, starting prompting at 5pm and ending at 8pm. We will begin clean up at 8:30pm so students have additional time for socializing and drying their final pieces. This workshop is an in-person course hosted in the Art Barn at Howe Hill Farm in Camden, Maine. 

WHAT TO BRING

All materials will be provided but feel free to bring a notebook to take notes and a water bottle. 

Skill level

This workshop is designed for people of all skill levels who are wanting to experiment with the art of fabric and paper marbling. No prior art experience is required. In addition to your final pieces, you will receive a list of suggested supplies should you want to continue experimenting with marbling at home. 

REFUNDs

If you need to cancel, please notify us via email at least 15 days before the start of the workshop. We will refund your tuition, minus a $50 cancellation fee or you may transfer your full tuition amount to another Workshop at Howe Hill Farm within 18 months. Cancellations made within 15 days of the workshop will result in forfeit of the full tuition amount. If you are traveling to attend a workshop we recommend insuring your trip with Travelex insurance so your trip and tuition will be covered in the event of illness or unforeseen circumstances.

*If minimum enrollment is not met within 10 days of the workshop start the course will be cancelled and a full refund will be issued to all registered students.

Lea Freni & Marianne Needell are co-founders of Create Collective Workshops, a multi-disciplinary art collective hosting creative workshops throughout the Northeast.

 

Lea Freni is a Midcoast Maine based designer and artist. She has extensive fashion industry experience in apparel design and 3D modeling. She is passionate about art education and exploring surface design techniques with creatives of all ages and skill levels.

 

Marianne Needell is a designer working in Brooklyn, NY. She has over a decade experience working in the fashion industry and specializes in print and graphic design. She loves exploring the limitless potential of surface design, from print to dying to embroidery and everything in between.
